Home advantage played out perfectly at Sigona Golf Club as local stars Sandeep Matharu and Zipporah Gichigi emerged the top performers during the 16th leg of the 2025 NCBA Golf Series, held on Saturday.
Playing off handicap 2, Matharu produced a flawless round of 72 gross to clinch the Overall Gross Winner (Men) title, while Gichigi, off handicap 7, carded 86 gross to scoop the Overall Lady Gross Winner trophy.
The tournament attracted an impressive field of 260 golfers, making it one of the most competitive events of the Series so far.
Braving the chilly Sigona weather, players battled across various categories for honors, and for a coveted slot at the Grand Finale set for November at Muthaiga Golf Club.
In Division One (handicaps 5–12), Saahil Shah (handicap 10) dominated with 40 points and also claimed the Men’s Longest Drive, showcasing his consistency and distance throughout the day.
In Division Two (handicaps 13–24), Milan Varsani (handicap 18) led the men with a brilliant 42 points, while Jane Njau (handicap 14) topped the ladies with 33 points, and also walked away with the Longest Drive (Ladies) award.
Division Three (handicap 25 and above) saw Bharat Lakhani steal the spotlight with 43 points, the highest stableford score of the day.
Among the guest players, Tonny Tugee (handicap 12) impressed with a solid 38 points.
Precision play was rewarded as William Moturi and Mukami Wachira won the Nearest to the Pin prizes in the men’s and ladies’ categories respectively.

Speaking at the prize-giving ceremony, Rose Mburu, NCBA Bank’s Branch Manager at ABC Place, praised the day’s high turnout and reaffirmed the bank’s strong commitment to the sport.
“Golf remains a key priority for NCBA. This year alone, we have committed over KES 60 million to support golf development initiatives across East Africa,” she said.
“We believe golf has the power to connect, inspire, and build communities. That’s why we continue to support players at all levels—juniors, amateurs, and professionals alike.”
With the Series gaining momentum, attention now shifts to upcoming events in Rwanda (July 13th) and Mombasa Golf Club (July 22nd), as more golfers across the region chase glory and a shot at the season-ending finale.
