Muthaiga Golf Club’s Daniel Kiragu is brimming with confidence after clinching the 2025 NCBA Tea Fields Trophy title on Sunday at Kericho Golf Club.
Kiragu carded a total of 3-over-par 219, finishing three shots ahead of Elly Barno and Elvis Muigua, who tied for second on 6-over-par 222.
Defending champion Titus Okwong of Uganda settled for fourth on 10-over-par 226.
After a challenging start with a first-round 77, Kiragu staged a strong comeback, firing 2-under-par 70 in the second round before closing with an even-par 72 to seal victory and dethrone Okwong.
Barno played rounds of 75, 76, and 71, while Muigua returned 74, 75, and 73 over the three days.
“This win is a reminder that hard work and patience always pay off. You just have to keep pushing forward, stay committed, and maintain a positive mindset,” said Kiragu, who began playing competitive golf at 14.
This marks his second career win on the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series, his first coming at the Railway Invitational in 2022.
“It feels amazing to win again after three years. I’m truly grateful for this victory, and hopefully, I can secure another before the season ends,” he added.

Kiragu, who represented Kenya at the All-Africa Junior Golf Challenge in Morocco in 2017, is currently ranked 737th globally in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
Locally, Kiragu has been one of the standout performers in the 2025 KAGC season, competing in 18 tournaments and amassing 582 points to sit sixth on the national Order of Merit.
His campaign has been defined by consistency, with 15 top-10 finishes, including a third-place result at the NCBA Nanyuki Open and top-five placements at events such as the NCBA Mt. Kenya Championship, Kiambu Open, Coronation Cup, Limuru Open, Kenya Amateur Strokeplay Championship, Railway Invitational, and Diani Beach Masters.
He currently trails top amateurs John Lejirma (2,050 points), Michael Karanga (1,887), Elvis Muigua (1,342), Isaac Makokha (910), and Ebill Omollo (707) in the 2025 standings.
The next stop on the KAGC calendar is the Nyanza Open – Hippo Pot, set to tee off from Friday, October 10, to Sunday, October 12, at Nyanza Golf Club.
