Professional golfers playing on the Sunshine Development Tour – East Africa Swing (SDT) will now earn Safari Tour ranking points for the Magical Kenya Open.
This follows a new Tour Recognition Agreement signed between the Kenya Open Golf Limited (KOGL) and the SDT. The deal officially recognizes SDT tournaments as part of the qualification pathway for the Magical Kenya Open, a DP World Tour event.
KOGL Chairman Patrick Obath said the partnership will give golfers more chances to compete and earn points.
“This agreement with the SDT will allow our Safari Tour members to earn Magical Kenya Open ranking points whilst playing on the SDT,” said Obath. “The synergy between the Tours opens up opportunities for golfers to play more tournaments and grow their game.”
He said KOGL will provide officials to maintain high tournament standards.
“KOGL will support the SDT with tournament officials to ensure course setup and officiating meet top professional standards,” he added.

The Safari Tour ranking points earned on the SDT will determine who qualifies for the Magical Kenya Open. Obath said the qualification process will be fair and performance-based.
“The pathway into the Magical Kenya Open will be merit-based and clearly defined. Golfers now know what is required of them to qualify,” he explained.
The first qualifying event under this agreement will be the SDT Betika Masters at Vet Lab Sports Club.
Other upcoming events include tournaments at Limuru Country Club, Vipingo Ridge, and Karen Country Club.
Obath also announced that one SDT event will be held in Nigeria, expanding the Tour’s regional reach.
