Muthaiga Golf Club’s Eugine Wafula secured his maiden Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) title after emerging victorious at the fourth edition of the NCBA Ruiru Open, held at Ruiru Sports Club.
Wafula produced a composed final-round performance to finish the three-day championship on a total score of 217 (-2), claiming his first-ever KAGC victory.
The champion opened his campaign with a three-under par 70 before adding rounds of 73 and 74 for a three-round aggregate of 217.
His consistency throughout the tournament proved decisive as he held off a strong challenge from a chasing pack that included some of the region’s leading amateur golfers.
The battle for the podium positions went down to the wire, with Nakuru Golf Club’s John Kamaisi, Tanzania’s Madina Hussein of Arusha Gymkhana Club, and Golf Park Golf Club’s Josphat Rono all finishing tied for second place on 218 (-1).
Kamaisi delivered one of the standout rounds of the tournament on the final day, carding an impressive 69 after earlier rounds of 73 and 76.
Hussein, one of East Africa’s leading female amateurs, demonstrated remarkable consistency throughout the championship.
She opened with rounds of 72 and 72 before closing with a 74 to finish alongside Kamaisi and Rono at one-under-par.
Rono also remained firmly in contention throughout the tournament after rounds of 71, 73 and 74.
The championship attracted a strong field of elite amateurs from Kenya and the wider East African region, further underlining the growing stature of the NCBA Ruiru Open within the KAGC calendar.
