Senior Kabundi emerged the overall winner at the NCBA-sponsored Kiambu Golf Club Captain’s Prize, held on Saturday, November 8, marking a memorable send-off for outgoing club captain, William Muguima.

Kabundi posted an impressive aggregate score of 72 to triumph over a strong field of more than 160 golfers, including seven juniors, in the highly competitive annual event.

David Thiong’o claimed the overall title with 42 points playing off handicap 25, while JK Muchai (19) carded 37 points to win the men’s category. In the ladies’ section, Rose Kabutha triumphed on countback over Beatrice Kungu after both tied at 35 points.

Reflecting on his tenure, Captain Muguima expressed pride in the club’s growth, particularly the rising participation of junior golfers.

“Today was a good day, and I am happy that the week ended well. Congratulations to all the winners. My tenure has been exceptional — our biggest achievement being the growth in junior participation, with over 30 players obtaining their handicaps this year. We have ensured that junior players always have slots in every tournament, and I hope this culture continues,” said Muguima.

Meanwhile, the qualifying phase of the 2025 NCBA Golf Series concluded at Nyahururu Golf Club, where three golfers secured their places in the Grand Finale set for November 28 at Muthaiga Golf Club.

Cyrus Lwenyi led the charge with 37 points to emerge overall winner, followed by Samuel Njenga, who also carded 37 points to claim the men’s title on countback.

Florence Wanjiru (handicap 12) won the ladies’ category with 34 points, sealing her spot in the season-ending finale.

Focus now turns to the Grand Finale showdown set to take place at Muthaiga on Saturday, November 28th.
