It was a thrilling weekend of top-tier golf at the scenic Nyali Golf and Country Club, where William Kaguta and Mary Kandu emerged as overall gross winners in the latest leg of the 2025 NCBA Golf Series.
The event attracted a strong field of 223 golfers from across the Mombasa region, all vying for a coveted spot in the series’ Grand Finale.
Kaguta, playing off handicap 2, delivered a stunning round of 68 gross to clinch the Overall Gross Men Winner title.
“I played well today—68 gross. I had a great round and really enjoyed myself on the course,” Kaguta said after his win.
“I want to thank NCBA for supporting golf and creating these opportunities for us to compete and grow.”
Hot on his heels was Henry Kamau (handicap 1), who carded a solid 74 gross to finish second, followed by Gurbux Singh (handicap 4) in third with 76 gross.
In the ladies’ gross category, Mary Kandu (handicap 9) continued her stellar form with a commanding 78 gross to take the Overall Gross Lady Winner title, her fourth NCBA Series victory at Nyali.
“I’m incredibly proud of this win,” Kandu said.
“The course was in great shape, but it really tested every part of my game. Competing at home with such a strong field always makes it special.”

Joyce Radtke (handicap 10) followed closely with 80 gross to finish runner-up, while Susan Stokes (handicap 10) took third place with 88 gross.
In the stableford divisions, Nyali Golf Club Captain Omar Lewa (handicap 9) led from the front, carding 40 points to top Division A (handicap 0–12).
Vishnu Dhutia (handicap 11) came second with 36 points, and Martin Wahome (handicap 12) placed third with 35.
Division B (handicap 13–24) was decided on countback, with Michael Mbugua (handicap 23) narrowly edging out Hitendra Halai (handicap 19), both finishing with 40 points.
Tom Soigwa (handicap 19) claimed third place with 38 points.
Among the ladies in Division B, Florence Karimi (handicap 21) emerged winner with 34 points on countback, narrowly ahead of Joyce Kamau (handicap 24), while Truphena Oyaro (handicap 14) secured third place, also with 34 points.
In Division C (handicap 25–54), Virginia Flora (handicap 45) topped the leaderboard with 40 points, followed by Kabir Kakkar (handicap 36) with 39 points and Jayne Githere (handicap 27) with 38.
Naomi Kikulu (handicap 12) walked away with the Guest Winner title on 38 points, while rising junior Fidelis Wasike (handicap 9) impressed with 32 points to take top honors in the juniors’ category.

One of the day’s most exciting highlights was the coveted hole-in-one prize—a brand new JCB 3DX Backhoe Loader, courtesy of NCBA’s partnership with JCB Ganatra.
While no golfer claimed the prize, the buzz around it added extra excitement to the event.
The Nyali leg marked yet another successful chapter in the 2025 NCBA Golf Series, reinforcing the bank’s dedication to nurturing golf talent and building communities through sport.
Speaking during the prize-giving ceremony, NCBA Mombasa Regional Manager Yasir Ashur emphasized the bank’s vision:
“At NCBA, we are committed to supporting platforms that nurture talent, bring communities together, and create impact. Golf is a sport of discipline and precision—values we strongly resonate with. We’re proud of how far this series has come since 2021, and even prouder to be back here at Nyali where the competition, energy, and camaraderie are always outstanding.”
Nyali Golf Club Captain, and Division A winner, Omar Lewa, echoed the sentiment:
“It was a fantastic day of golf. We’re truly grateful to NCBA for being a loyal partner over the years. Their continued support has elevated our golfing calendar and enabled us to host events that rival any in the country.”
