John Lejirma’s dominant run in the 2025 Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series shows no signs of slowing after his latest triumph at the NCBA Ronald Marshal & Toby Gibson tournament, held at Njoro Country Club on Sunday.

Facing off against Amos Odongo of Golf Park in the final match play round, Lejirma put on a clinical performance to seal a 4&3 victory, reinforcing his position as the man to beat on the national circuit.

“Honestly, it feels amazing to win a third KAGC event this season. It’s something I’m really proud of,” he told Golf Score Kenya.

Having competed in six of the 10 KAGC events played so far this year, the Royal Nairobi Golf Club standout has firmly stamped his authority on the circuit.

He has been in scintillating form through the first half of the season, recording three wins, two third-place finishes, and a runner-up spot in just six appearances.

The Team Kenya captain claimed victories at the NCBA Windsor Classic and NCBA Kisii Open ‘Shabana’ Trophy in March.

The NCBA Ronald Marshal & Toby Gibson Match Play at Njoro was his third title of the year.

He also finished second at the NCBA Kiambu Open and placed third at both the NCBA Sigona Open and NCBA Muthaiga Open.

The Sunday win at Njoro earned Lejirma 100 ranking points, pushing his season total to 895 points and giving him a 162-point lead over his closest rival, Michael Karanga — the back-to-back KAGC champion in 2023 and 2024.

“Leading the player rankings by over 160 points at this stage shows how much work has gone in behind the scenes, mentally, physically, and technically,” said Lejirma.

Despite his imperious form, Lejirma emphasized the need to remain grounded and committed throughout the remainder of the season.

“I’m grateful for the momentum, but I know the season is still long. There’s a lot of work ahead, and I need to stay focused. I’ll keep showing up, tournament by tournament, until the final day,” he added.

Hot on his heels in 2025 KAGC ranking is Michael Karanga.

Karanga has shown flashes of brilliance with two strong wins this season — at the Sigona Bowl and Kiambu Open — and finished runner-up at the NCBA Winston Churchill event

However, a slow start at Windsor (T5) and Muthaiga (7th) may have dented his early momentum.

Coming in third in the standings is Ndumberi Golf Club’s Elvis Muigua, with 672 points.

His consistency has been a major asset, with runner-up finishes at the Windsor Classic and Muthaiga Open, a third-place finish at Njoro, and a dominant win at the NCBA Winston Churchill tournament in April, earning him a valuable 225 points.

The rivalry between Lejirma and Karanga is set to intensify, especially as both players target the upcoming Nakuru’s Coronation and Bendor Trophy this coming weekend.
