The historic rivalry between Mombasa Golf Club and Royal Nairobi Golf Club will be renewed this weekend when the two sides face off in the Annual Matchplay Competition at the scenic sea-link course in Mombasa.

The tournament, sponsored by NCBA Bank, brings together two of Kenya’s oldest clubs—Royal Nairobi (founded in 1906) and Mombasa Golf Club (established in 1911)—in a tradition that has been upheld every August in Mombasa.

Speaking to Golf Score Kenya, Mombasa Golf Club Captain George Mokaya said they are fully prepared to host their counterparts from Nairobi.

“We welcome our sister club Royal to Mombasa. We will feed them and beat them—teaching them both culinary and golfing lessons. The trophy will remain here at the Coast,” Mokaya declared.

According to the captain, at least 60 players from Mombasa have already registered, with more than 40 expected to travel from Royal Nairobi, bringing the total field to over 100 golfers.

The winners will secure slots in the NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale, set for November in Nairobi.

Last weekend, the NCBA Golf Series extended its regional footprint to Tanzania, where three golfers qualified for the finale after an event at the TPDF Lugalo Golf Club in Dar es Salaam.

Nsajigwa Mwansasu clinched the men’s gross title with 77 strokes, while Vicky Elias took the ladies’ gross honors after carding 74.

Khalid Shemndolwa won Division A with 71 nett to complete Tanzania’s list of qualifiers.
