Kenya Open Golf Limited (KOGL) has ushered in a new era of leadership with the appointment of Patrick Obath as its new Chairman, marking a major transition for the body behind the prestigious Magical Kenya Open.
Obath, a seasoned golf administrator, is well-known within Kenya’s golfing circles.
He has served as Tournament Director of the Magical Kenya Open since 2011, playing a pivotal role in its elevation to the DP World Tour and helping position Kenya as a top destination for international golf.
He takes over from longtime Chairman Peter Kanyago, who joined KOGL in 2004 and opted not to seek re-election.
Also stepping down is Finance Director Joe Wangai, who had been on the board since 2011.
Their departure signals the end of a significant chapter in KOGL’s history, with both men credited for shaping the organization into a globally respected tournament promoter.
Obath now leads a refreshed board that includes Ronald Meru, Lucas Marang’a, Zuhura Ogada, Faith Kanaga, Francis Okwara, Regina Gachora, Chris Kinuthia, and Brian Akun.
Two board seats remain vacant following Kanyago’s and Wangai’s exit, with KOGL expected to call an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) soon to initiate the nomination and appointment process.
In his first statement as Chairman, Obath emphasized continuity and growth.
“Having elevated the role of golf in the economy and sporting environment, it is now time to support the development of local talent, strengthen partnerships, and inspire the next generation,” he said.
KOGL remains committed to its mission of organizing the Magical Kenya Open, promoting sports tourism, nurturing local players, and using golf as a driver of economic and social impact.
