Ugandan professional golfer Ronald Rugumayo produced a stellar performance at the Big Easy Tour 8, finishing joint second with a total of 205 (-5) after three rounds at the Killarney Country Club in South Africa.

The event, part of the Sunshine Development Tour – East Africa Swing, ran from 28th to 30th November.

Facing a highly competitive field of international and South African pros, Rugumayo opened with a solid 2-under 68, followed by an even-par 70, before closing with an outstanding 3-under 67 to secure a share of second place with South Africa’s Dillon Germshuys.

He finished three strokes behind Daniel Cronje, who clinched victory at 202 (-8).

The Ugandan’s consistent scores — 68, 70, and 67 — showcased his growing composure and technical precision on the professional circuit.

His performance also highlighted the rising standard of players developed through the Sunshine Development Tour – East Africa Swing, which serves as a key stepping stone toward the Sunshine Tour and other international events.

“It feels great to be competing at this level and to finish among the top players,” said Rugumayo after his impressive showing.

“Each round was a challenge, but I stayed focused and trusted my game plan. The Sunshine Development Tour has been instrumental in preparing us for opportunities like this.”

Rugumayo’s runner-up finish marks one of the best performances by an East African golfer on the Sunshine Tour stage in recent years.

The Big Easy Tour, sanctioned by the Sunshine Tour, is a professional development circuit offering players world ranking points and a pathway to full Sunshine Tour status.

Rugumayo’s success follows a series of strong performances across the East Africa Swing, where he remains one of Uganda’s most consistent representatives.

The Sunshine Development Tour – East Africa Swing continues to expand its reach, having hosted tournaments in Thika, Ruiru, Nyali, Diani, Kigali, and Royal Nairobi.

The next events, branded as the Betika Masters, will take place at Vetlab Sports Club from 2nd–4th November and at Limuru Country Club from 9th–11th November 2025.

Each leg will feature 84 players from across Africa and beyond, competing for KSh 2 million in prize money and valuable world ranking points.
