Catherine Wambui stamped her authority once again at the NCBA Golf Series by defending her title during the 15th qualifying leg of the 2025 campaign held at Ruiru Sports Club on Saturday.
The event, which attracted a record 270 players—including five juniors—was the biggest yet in the series.
Wambui, playing off handicap 7, carded 82 gross to clinch the Overall Gross Lady Winner title and secure her spot in this year’s Grand Finale, set for November.
“I played better than last year and I am happy to have defended the title. I look forward to representing Ruiru Sports Club at the grand finale,” said Wambui.
In the men’s category, Kevin Metto delivered a stellar performance, posting 76 gross off handicap 2 to emerge the Overall Gross Men Winner.

Other notable winners included; Johnson Ngugi, who carded an impressive 41 points to emerge as Division One winner.
In Division Two, James Wangombe emerged as the winner with 46 points as Pauline Mungai went home with the ladies’ title after scoring 41 points.
Margaret Kariuki was the overall Division Three Winner with 41 points.
Wilson Mwangi stole the spotlight in the Junior category, carding an impressive 41 points to seal the win.
Jaques Venter and Jacob Ochieng won the guest and staff categories in that order after clinching 40 and 36 points respectively.
Speaking at the event, NCBA Group Managing Director John Gachora reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to growing golf in Kenya:
“When we launched the series in 2021, we knew golf was a global sport with great potential locally. Kenya has the second-largest number of golf courses in Africa, and we saw an opportunity to make it a premier golf destination,” he said.
“This year, every course in Kenya will feel the presence of NCBA whether through qualifiers such as this, club nights or mugs. That is a commitment we have made this year.”
Following back-to-back qualifiers, the NCBA Golf Series now shifts to Kisii Golf Club next weekend for the Monthly Mug.
