Mombasa Golf Club reaffirmed its home dominance after defeating Royal Nairobi Golf Club in the Annual Mombasa–Royal Matchplay Tournament held last Saturday at the sea-link course in Mombasa.
The highly anticipated event, which has been a tradition between the two of Kenya’s oldest clubs—Royal Nairobi (founded in 1906) and Mombasa (established in 1911)—saw over 100 golfers turn up for the competition.
Mombasa Golf Club registered an emphatic 16 match wins out of 22 fixtures, while Royal Nairobi Golf Club managed only six victories.
Following the win in 16 matches, Mombasa Golf Club finished with 32 points, while Royal Nairobi trailed far behind with 12 points.

Mombasa Captain George Mokaya, who had confidently predicted a victory before the showdown, was delighted with the result.
“Once again, Mombasa Golf Club has proven to be a team to watch. We are proud of our players. Royal put up a fight, but we ensured the trophy remained at the Coast,” Mokaya said.
The win also saw top performers from Mombasa qualify for the NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale, set for November at Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi.

Gurbux Singh led the way with a superb round of 77 to clinch the Overall Gross Winner title.
In Division A, George Githinji (72, playing off handicap 8) took top honors, while Victor Simbi edged out Martin Wahome on countback after both carded 73.
Division B was equally competitive, with Clifford Tolo posting a brilliant 64 to secure victory, followed by Sam Muraya on 65 and Captain Mokaya with 71.
Division C honors went to Salim Taib with 69, ahead of Vincent Muriungi (70) and Paul Munyao (71).
With these results, Singh, Githinji, Tolo, and Taib sealed their places in the much-anticipated NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale, joining the growing list of qualifiers ready to battle for glory at Muthaiga.
