A strong field of at least 55 elite golfers will descend on the Diamonds Leisure Golf Club this weekend for the 2025 NCBA Diani Beach Masters, popularly known as the Battle for the Green Jacket.
The three-day event tees off tomorrow, Friday, September 5, and runs through to Sunday, September 7, with a prize purse of KES 600,000 at stake.
With defending champion John Lejirma away in Rwanda, a new winner is guaranteed this year.
Last year’s runner-up, John Kamais, will be hoping to go one better after falling short in a playoff to Lejirma.
He will face stiff competition from in-form players such as Isaac Makokha, fresh from his Railway Invitational triumph, as well as Ebil Omollo, Elvis Muigua, and William Odek.
The ladies’ field will feature three determined golfers — Mercy Nyanchama, the reigning Uganda Open Ladies Champion, Elias Vicky, and Joyce Radtke.
Nyanchama will be eyeing back-to-back success after her recent international victory.
The handicap entry limit of 14.6 ensures a high level of competition as players battle for the prestigious green jacket.
Last year’s edition delivered a memorable highlight when the green jacket was dropped onto the course by a skydiver, a tradition that reinforced the event’s prestige and spectacle.
The NCBA Diani Beach Masters has steadily grown into a cornerstone of the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) calendar, attracting some of the finest talent in the region.
Speaking ahead of the weekend, NCBA Group Managing Director John Gachora emphasized the bank’s commitment to the growth of golf at all levels:
“We are in for yet another busy weekend. The KAGC Series continues at the Coast while the third leg of the Fall U.S. Kids Golf Tournament takes place in Limuru. Through our sponsorship of the NCBA Golf Series, the KAGC Series in partnership with KGU, and junior events like the U.S. Kids Spring and Fall tournaments, we are proud to support the development of golf in Kenya and across the region. These tournaments are not just about competition, but also about building friendships, celebrating the sport, and nurturing the next generation of champions. We are delighted to be at the center of it all.”
