
Dennis Gakuo and Naomi Kimata emerged as the Overall Gross Winners in the men’s and ladies’ categories respectively during the eighth leg of the NCBA Golf Series held at Thika Sports Club on Saturday.
Gakuo, playing off handicap 3, delivered a commanding performance, carding an impressive 77 gross to clinch the men’s top prize.
Kimata, playing off handicap 14, showcased resilience and consistency to post 85 gross, securing the overall ladies’ title.
The tournament, which attracted over 270 golfers, featured intense competition across various categories.
In Division I (handicap 12 and below), Edward Nyamu (handicap 8) topped the leaderboard with 37 points.
Division II saw Simon Kibe (handicap 20) take the men’s title with 40 points, while Veronica Wanjiku (handicap 22) emerged victorious in the ladies’ section with 41 points.
Rose Nduta (handicap 42) took top honours in Division III (handicap 25 and above), also scoring 41 points.
Rising junior talent Jamie Gakobo (handicap 15) impressed with a strong 39 points to claim the Junior Winner trophy.
In the Guest category, Job Karimi (handicap 26) matched that score to secure the Guest Winner title.

Among NCBA staff participants, Daniel Chege led with 24 points.
The event also featured thrilling skill contests. Linus Muthari and Veronica Wanjiku won the Longest Drive challenge in the men’s and ladies’ categories, respectively, while Ngugi Waweru and Betty Mutua claimed the Nearest to the Pin titles.
Speaking during the prize ceremony, NCBA Thika Branch Manager Nicholas Njenga said: “We are incredibly proud to have hosted today’s event here at Thika Sports Club. Seeing 270 golfers participate is a testament to the growth of the game and the strength of this golfing community.”

Thika Sports Club Captain Moses Gatonye praised the event’s success, stating: “Today’s turnout was phenomenal. NCBA continues to show unmatched dedication to the game of golf. The NCBA Golf Series now turns to its ninth leg, scheduled for May 9 at Machakos Golf Club, as it continues to offer a platform for golfers of all levels to compete, connect, and grow the game.
